Fresh from being unveiled as the winner of the largest batch of frequencies in Taiwan’s 4G spectrum auction, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has revealed that it plans to launch LTE services in the second half of 2014, reports DigiTimes. The company will spend up to TWD40 billion (USD1.4 billion) on deploying more than 7,000 base stations to cover at least 96% of the population over the next five years. CHT secured three bands in the auction, and it says that the C5 band (1755-1770MHz for upload, 1850-1865MHz for download) is not currently occupied and therefore available for immediate use. The operator also stated that because the C5 band is used widely around the world, there are many terminal devices available, handing CHT a potential advantage over its competitors in Taiwan.
