According to the latest statistics by MIIT, the average monthly data traffic consumed by Chinese 3G users has been up to 120M.
Shang Bing, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said that since mobile internet sprung up rapidly in recent years, both shipments and users of smartphones are increasing explosively worldwide. “The development of mobile internet, especially in smart device, is changing the industry format and the way people consume.” In 2012, the shipment of smart device is near 200 million units, and during the first half of this year the number sharply increased to 250 million with a annual growth rate over 100%. In recent two years, the traffic consumption increased by 50% yearly. Up till now, the average monthly traffic use of 3G subscribers surpassed 120M. “It’s an explosive growth.” He said.
He also pointed out that a main factor to modern mobile communication is the frequency resource for its finiteness. According to Broadband China Strategy, subscribers on both 3G and LTE network is expected to quadruple to 1.2 billion till 2020, which means a greater demand for frequency.
